  • The text told me that it only took "up" to 24 hours to reset...

Like in the case of most people I decide to reset my last fm profile because it didn't really reflect my tastes accurately anymore. When I did reset it told me it would take up to 24 hours for it to reset. I've been told by those who have done this as well that they didn't have any problem with it. I'm curious as to why it's taking longer then 24 hours and what I can do to clear my charts and start over again. :(
I'm engaged to loneliness. Married to misery, and pregnant with suicide.
  • Well, the text is wrong. It can take longer. What you should do, is simply wait. (the "reset on..." thing shows that it worked, but it's just taking some time)
  • I guess I'll wait then. It's not like I have much of a say in it. But it's really taking a long time. I mean it's going on 2 days now. :X

I believe it's already reset, the problem is just that the playcount hasn't been updated yet. You can just start scrobbling Your first track.

Btw I read Your journal about it, it's a pity that You decided to reset Your listening data, seriously, it looked awesome, the chart was so diverse, rich, and vibrant ;)
  • I suppose. But there were just too many bands on my charts that I either didn't like or didn't listen to anymore.

  • Hm, I just reset my profile too, but I just wanted to know; all songs scrobbled from after I reset are added to the 'new' profile, right? I guess Fulvian's post more or less answered my query, but I just wanted to ask to be sure ;P

    -Yes, I do.
  • I did clear my listening data on saturday morning, and I guess it's reflected on my profile after the next chart update. It's a bit slow at the moment.
  • I've heard such great things about last.fm, and it looks like a great site, but I'm EXTREMELY annoyed with the whole track importing/resetting procedure. When I imported my listened to tracks from iTunes, I assumed I'd be able to clean it up here on the site. I've got some joke tracks, tracks played as a joke, tracks played for a friend, tracks played by other users of the computer, etc. Imagine my surprise when I couldn't find any way to delete individual tracks. It makes no sense to me to have importing be all or nothing, and then give the user no way to delete individual tracks. I never would have imported if I had realized every single track would be visible, and couldn't be removed.

I finally resorted to deleting my entire listening history, but it's been 48 hours and it's still not gone. If it takes more than 24 hours (as people have said) then *update the text*. Honestly, that seems like pretty basic stuff. I really feel like I can't even use the site until my listening history is clear. It shouldn't be this hard to delete personal user data. It makes me wonder about how well the site will protect my privacy.

@Booksherpa: you will be able to delete stuff when the next version of the site is released (which shouldn't be long, now).

As for your privacy concerns, last.fm doesn't store or display any personal user data except what you tell it to (you don't even need an e-mail address), and any personal info you do put into the site you can delete instantly whenever you like.

  • What DFA said +

The first paragraph is really your own fault, to be honest. It didn't tell you you wouldn't be able to edit the history, but it didn't tell you you would be able to do it either.

In the second paragraph, I definitely agree that they should update the text, and don't see why they haven't either (they know about this, plus, it's just text, how hard can it be).

You don't have to worry about privacy though (unless, of course, your definition of privacy is "people seeing what I listen to"). See the FAQ ("How is my privacy protected?") and this PDF.
  • @DFA1979: Thanks for the info!

@TheMannen: "The first paragraph is really your own fault, to be honest. It didn't tell you you wouldn't be able to edit the history, but it didn't tell you you would be able to do it either."

Well, true. It is my fault - I chose to upload the data without clear information on what would happen after. But honestly, it's beyond unusual for a website to refuse to allow you to delete personal data that you uploaded yourself. It would be like uploading your bookmarks file to del.icio.us and then not being able to delete (for example) links to local files that you stored on there. I made an assumption, but I don't think it was completely off base for me to assume I'd be able to delete data -about me- that -I- uploaded. Not that you said that I was off base. :) I just figured that last.fm worked like every other social networking-ish website I've encountered. Plus, some of the listening data I uploaded is useless to the site. The track I made and listened to in iTunes while messing about with Audacity doesn't help anyone else on here.

Oh, and my definition of privacy did extend to people seeing what I listen to, in that I can't delete any of it. My only recourse is choosing the option to block people from seeing any of my listened to tracks. I'd rather that switch be a dimmer and not an on/off, y'know? :)

And I'm at almost 72 hours, and still have undeleted data. Sigh . . .

Your profile has been cleared (I saw no artist/album/track charts), but Taste-o-meter is still detecting our compatibility.

Your musical compatibility rating with booksherpa is:

    Very Low

You share some artists in common, including "Weird Al" Yankovic, Shania Twain, Bond, Roxette, and Enya.

I made my recent listening history invisible to everyone but me. It's actually still not cleared. Plus, all the artists listed as common to you and I are actually my husband's tastes. :) Thanks for the info, though.
  • What about resetting plays since the new site came into action? I've been looking for a thread that tells me when it's gonna be fixed because all I get told is that 'it's in the known issues and it's not working right now'. I know it's not working! I just want to know when it will be fixed so I can start listening to my music from fresh all over again! Found a thread which I thought would help, but there was just a link to this one, which didn't -_- Please please PLEEEEEASE someone just tell everyone when this problems gonna be fixed! I'm that desperate I wrote this whole huge rant within the space of 2 minutes without even realising how big it is!
