Green Day is a punk rock band based in California, USA, consisting of Billie Joe Armstrong on lead vocals and guitar; Mike Dirnt, born Michael Ryan Pritchard, on Bass and backing vocals; and Tré Cool, born Frank Edwin Wright III, on drums. Close associate Jason White (from Little Rock, Arkansas) has served as a second guitarist on the tours supporting their 2000 and 2004 albums. Musician Jason Freese has played a variety of instruments with the band, including keyboards on tour.
Billie Joe and Mike began the band as ‘Sweet Children’ near San Francisco, CA in 1987. In 1989, they changed the band’s name to ‘Green Day.’ After the original drummer Al Sobrante (John Kiffmeyer) left for college in 1990, Tré Cool joined the band. Green Day released two albums, 1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours and Kerplunk! with Lookout! Records before their breakthrough album, Dookie, was released in 1994 under Reprise Records. Just before this release however, many feared the end of Green Day as Billie Joe was at the time spending more and more time playing in his Status Quo tribute band “Status Joe.”
Dookie was certified diamond (10 million copies shipped) in the United States. Their second best-selling album, American Idiot, released in 2004, has sold over eleven million copies worldwide, and won the 2005 Grammy Award for “Best Rock Album”.

Why tag a song with the name of the band it's by? Some people just confuse me...

C'mon, anyone can post, it's not limited to fans. Now, people shouldn't be total tools, sure, but not everyone likes the same music. Now, back to Green Day, they should release something in line with Insomniac instead of American Idiot: The Sequel (which they obviously will). Oh well.
