I fell asleep with my iPod on at about 3 O'clock 6/30, woke up with my randomize only on track 23. I thought nothing of it! Until I decide... "Hey, I'll go for a 2 hour walk." So after I had already started my walk, the songs won't play. The iPod will be on play but the songs will remain at 0:00 time. So, I reset my iPod today on the first, and readded songs. Still doesn't work. Time to replace it, it seems! R.I.P.
I was very disappointed to read the following in allmusic's review of The Veer Union's release Against the Grain: That being said, the band's biracial lineup is a good deal more interesting than the music it creates, as frontman Crispin Earl is one of the few black vocalists to appear on the hard rock landscape in years. Earl's skin is inconsequential to his band's sound, of course, but the Veer Union nevertheless experienced a good deal of difficulty securing a record contract, with many labels allegedly balking at the prospect of promoting a biracial band to a historically white audience.
Huh? What year are we in? Did these labels not know about bands like Sevendust and God Forbid? Those successful acts play to audiences that are even further into the lighter end of the spectrum. Or perhaps they forgot that Jimi Hendrix, one of the greatest rockers of all time, was black? Linkin Park has been a huge hit despite (or was it because of) their overwhelming hip hop influence and obvious Asian overtones.
On the other side of things, Eminem and Paul Wall have shown us that there is such a thing as a successful, popular caucasian rapper. As a matter of fact, most people who've never seen Paul Wall think he's black. I used to be one of them.
It's 2009 folks. This is the era of suburban kids crankin dat Soulja Boy on YouTube and the hot brunette chick at the party doing GS Boyz's Stanky Legg in your friend's Facebook video. It's "traditionally" snobbish Boca Raton kids blasting Young Jeezy in their BMWs. One of my first journals on Last.fm was about how music has finally transcended social and ethnic boundaries in US society. Up to 2007, I got a lot of hate in my profiles shoutbox from other users here who were apparently upset that I listened to both acts like Insomnium and 50 Cent. Except for the occasional closed-minded idiot, that's pretty much stopped now. Flat billed baseball caps, once the province of gangsta rappers, are now standard surf/skate/motorsport (traditionally caucasian markets) attire. Have you seen the US president lately?
While some would argue that The Veer Union are a Canadian band and so labels were probably thinking about the considerably more homogenous Canadian market, one only has to look at Default, Nickelback and Evans Blue for proof that most big Canadian alt-rock bands make most of their bacon in the US market anyway.
Given the aforesaid examples, it is absolutely outrageous that anyone would think that, in this day and age, a minority alt-rock frontman would be somehow less marketable than a Caucasian one.
Musical tastes, appreciation, and personal culture are no longer - nor should they be - related to the ethnicity of the performer or the fan.
That said, I'd declared The Veer Union's Seasons as the best debut alt-rock single I'd heard in ages, if not ever, even before I knew what the band looked like. Because that last part DOES. NOT. MATTER.
I kinda like I more than Immortal, even though this might make me untrue, probably its the better sound quality? (I am a person that prefers records where the microphone was not in an anus during recording)
A wonderful band, I was introduced to it by a wonderful person. I am probably going to get more from them since I only got Isola, which is very good though.
If I were on last.fm a few years ago already, they'd be probably top 10.
But they are a band that wears off to easily and once they did you dont get into them anymore.
For some it takes time to get into Kraftwerk, but its worth it. Some songs are really nice but other songs can be tiring and boring. Not shit, but simply they dont have anything special.
Eternal Nightmare is quite the opposite of a nightmare musically. I enjoyed every single song. Although my charts tell another story, I prefer Rob Flynn in Vio-Lence to Rob Flynn in Machine Head.
My first thrash metal band. First of: Belladonna is the best singer Anthrax ever had and I am disappointed that he wont be doing anything with Anthrax anymore. They should be a lot higher.
This band is the brainchild of me and a friend. We are considering making a full length album. I can hear the people saying "dont... work in a bank or be a police officer... but not a full length album".
"boooo" ... well, as I said, shitty music is included too, I dont want to lie so there has to be shitty music in my charts and one probably thinks even worse about my charts.
In my opinion he is the best german rapper and might be the best MC. From "Keine Liebe" up to Teenage Mutant Horror show he always was putting out great stuff.
Devin is cool even if he seems a bit fake sometimes. I dont really care because its the music that has to be good and the artist can be just another fag.
Mostly before Black Album Metallica because I hate 98% of what came after Ajfa.
Ride the Lightning and Kill em all were the best albums whilst Master of Puppets and Ajfa were already average.
Prinz Pi - Prinz Porno, same person but there is a difference. Quite a lot people prefer Prinz Porno, I like both the same and appreciate the wide range that is offered to the listener.
Megadeth is what Metallica could've been if Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield weren't such stupid idiots. I once heard Dave slept with Lars' girlfriend... xD
