I didn't think I'd be able to decide what my 10 favourite albums were and put them in order, but it turns out I can. Go figure.

    9. The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots

    8. Reuben - Racecar is Racecar Backwards

    7. Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation

    6. Hope of the States - The Lost Riots

    5. Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot

    4. Interpol - Turn on the Bright Lights

    3. Pavement - Slanted and Enchanted

    2. Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea

    1. At the Drive-In - Relationship of Command

Honourable mentions go to Worship and Tribute, OK Computer, Mr. Bungle, System of a Down, De-Loused in the Comatorium, Surfer Rosa, The Shape of Punk to Come, Ten Silver Drops and several others that could have made it onto the list if I was feeling slightly different when I compiled it.

  • Psychedelic Revelators: Top Ten Songs from 6:20 to 6:24

    28 Nov 2008, 03:08 by rockrobster23

The first concert I can remember seeing was at LSU's Greek Theatre circa 1971; I was about 6 years old, and attended with my mom and my aunt. I don't remember any of the bands specifically, but I do remember being asked how I liked the music, to which I replied, "I like the fast songs." Those tended to be the shorter ones, too, and to this day I've maintained a general preference for songs that get to the point. That's why, when punk came along, it immediately resonated with me. (And it was a pleasing coincidence that the nascent Baton Rouge punk scene got some of its widest exposure via afternoon concerts at the same Greek Theatre.)

I still admire economy more than sprawl, but longer pieces do things that short songs can’t. Not all of those things are good; I have never been a fan of jams that don’t seem to be leading anywhere, even in the days when I took a lot of psychedelic drugs. But songs at this length can generate a depth of feeling that only expansiveness allows, and the best long songs seem to arrest time; you don’t just listen to them, you inhabit them. That experience is inherently pretty psychedelic, even if the music itself doesn’t flaunt typically-recognized psychedelic tropes.

(Thanks to Lance for playing me a lot of 60s music when we were young, and to Joe for helping me appreciate electronica.)

    Intro
    3:27
    2:32
    4:08
    3:40
    1:57/1:58
    3:14

Top Ten Songs from 6:20 to 6:24

    1) PlayRevelator
It's odd that at a length that encourages complexity, the top two songs are structurally very simple. The surface simplicity is deceptive, as "Revelator" offers an opaque meditation on fate, free will, and identity, and responds to those issues with a terrifying ennui. In another journal a while back, I wrote: "Gillian Welch's Revelator is relentless. It quietly creeps up on you and destroys your will to live. And it does that without tricks, just Welch's gorgeous bone-tired croon and two acoustic guitars. That such stark simplicity can easily evoke what heavy psych bands sweat to even approach is remarkable."

    2) PlayCarry Me Ohio
One of the things music does better than anything else is to deliver a concentrated blow of sharp, fully-realized emotion straight to the listener’s hindbrain. In Sun Kil Moon's best song, Mark Kozelek distills mournful sorrow and resignation to exactly what they would sound like if those emotions could sing. In my songwriting career, in some ways, I kept trying to write this song and kept failing, either miserably or interestingly.

    3) PlayTunic (Song for Karen)
One of Sonic Youth's achievements in this song was to create a scary guitar sound that is also oddly soothing. It's unclear to me whether this farewell to Karen Carpenter was meant to be mocking or elegaic; maybe it's a little of both.

    4) PlayRabbit in Your Headlights
If you're looking for "Paranoid Android" in this list, please accept this substitute. I like Thom Yorke's vocal much more here, and this densely brilliant psychedelic track is full of head-spinning surprises, like the interpolation of the Jacob's Ladder monologue and that bass line walking deep down the scale when Yorke sings "Awayyyy...."

    5) Rebel Base
So often psychedelia comes as a package deal with insufferable pretension, but that's happily not the case with the US indie band Home. "Rebel Base" explores the opposition between "natural" and "manufactured" sounds, traversing from a pretty acoustic guitar and piano melody to a very quiet freakout, then back to the natural sounds, which eventually develop into an impossible-to-play drum loop. Home is a band that I like more than any of my friends, so there's a strong possibility that I'm just wrong about how great they are. Then again, my friends could be philistines.

NOTE: The distinction between "natural" and "manufactured" sound is of course muddy, and depends on your frame of reference. Strictly speaking, an acoustic guitar or a piano is a machine for manufacturing sound. However, it is an ingrained habit of mind in our culture to consider those sounds "natural," perhaps because they can be made without electricity, or because those sounds have become so familiar over a long period of time. In any case, the distinction I'm making here is focused on how most people think of different types of sound rather than how the sounds are actually produced.

    6) Money
It's a classic rock chestnut, but the opening cash register montage is still remarkable, and the funk of the verses wobbles between swagger and stagger, like a drunk rich man. Superb production, and worthy of its fame.

    7) PlayWalk on By
Someone called this Bacharach cover "prog-punk," and I guess that fits The Stranglers' take as well as anything else. I love the way Hugh Cornwell rushes through the verses with an almost-careful enunciation, like he's coming down from speed. If you're wondering why I would cut some slack to the jamming here, given my stated preference for NO JAMMING, I'm wondering too. For some reason it doesn't bug me. It's interesting to compare this to Isaac Hayes's version, which is equally psychedelic, but in a smoky languid way.

    8) PlayAn Eagle in Your Mind
It's hard for me to evaluate and describe music with a lot of ambient DNA, because it demands to be taken on different terms than music with even fractured pop song structure. I didn't grow up with this kind of stuff, so I'm less sure of my footing. Nonetheless, I know what I like in electronica, and like many Boards of Canada tracks, this sounds like it's going somewhere, or has just arrived and is defining the space it’s in, not just pointlessly looking around.

    9) PlayUntrue
Burial is a reinterpreter of natural sounds: he plays with manufactured sounds as their natural analogs, most famously with pitch-shifted vocals. Here, the omnipresent hiss of worn vinyl sounds like rain. It's hypnotic, like a walk through a cyberpunk cityscape.

    10) PlayInner Meet Me
The Beta Band offer a pleasing collision between electronic cheese and bright busky acoustic guitar, reminiscent of Beck without the distance and self-conscious irony; there's something both knowing and touchingly open-hearted about it.

I Like These Songs Too But Not Quite as Much as the Ones I Just Wrote About

    PlayParanoid Android
    Acro(nym)
    PlayV
    PlayClose Up The Honky Tonks

There is no worst song this time; nothing in my collection at this length was particularly egregious.

    It's the best kind...
This is sort of a list of the best live shows I've seen this year. Actually. This is more of a rundown of like, every show I've been to this year. If I can remember them all.

    South By Southwest Music Festival
    Austin, TX
    March 14-16, 2008
Artists I Saw: Thurston Moore, J Mascis, Maps and Atlases, Yeasayer, Cheveu, Islands, and others
Premise: SXSW is a music conference that also hosts a music festival and a film festival in Austin, mostly along 6th Street and Red River. This was my third year going. Most of the shows are small and in clubs and bars, which can be a problem for me since I'm underage. Some cool places let you in. This festival takes a lot of planning and cab fare to get from place to place when you need to move around. To get in, you can either get a badge (levels of VIP treatment vary), a wristband (second priority to badges; what I always get), or just pay a door fee. Problem is, lines are so damn long sometimes you don't get in to shit. I missed MGMT and Vampire Weekend for that particular reason.
Highlights: My god. Thurston Moore! Thuuuuuurrrston Moore. So let me tell you the story. So I was thoroughly pissed about waiting for Vampire Weekend, just to get to the front of the line and have their set end WHEN I CAN SEE INSIDE. So my cousin Jeff who came with me decided we should just head over to this other bar nearby to wait for Thurston. We walk in, and suddenly I hear this beautiful noise. It sound like a dying parrot, but in a totally good way. I jump up on a barstool to be able to see, and lo and behold, J Mascis is shredding the fuck out of his guitar onstage. I honestly didn't know he would be there. It blew my mind. Now, as a HUUUUGE Sonic Youth fan, I waited patiently for my boy Thurston to come on. And he did in a major way. He played acoustic guitar and was accompanied by a violinist, another guitar player, a bassist, keyboardist, and Steve Shelly on the drums. He played mostly solo stuff from his new album Trees Outside The Academy, but he came on at the end and did a The Velvet Underground B-side cover which I can't remember by name and a strange version of "PlaySchizophrenia." Which made me happy. But halfway through the song, Thurston decides it would be fun to crowd surf. Apparently no one told him the kid in the front row was tiny, weak, and not able to carry a 6'6" man. (That kid would be me.) Helping me support Thurston's ass was a strangely tall Belgian photographer ("We must keep his butt off the ground! It is DIRTY!") It was slightly uncomfortable, but I got a mouthful of Thurston's sweaty, orange hair, I got to strum his guitar, and I got to be super-super close to one of my idols. Rock on.
Merchandise purchased: Went to Waterloo Records (I'd recommend it to anyone visiting Austin) and bought some old favorites on vinyl: Sonic Youth's self-titled debut, Dead Kennedys' Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables, and The Velvet Underground's White Light/White Heat. I also got some stickers.

    Nylon Magazine Tour
    Houston, TX
    May 18, 2008
Artists I Saw: The Switches, The Virgins, Be Your Own Pet (left before She Wants Revenge b/c I don't particularly care for Joy Division rip-offs)
Premise: So this is kind of sad. I only really went to this show because Radiohead (same night) sold out in a matter of a few hours. That depressed me so much... God. I hope they'll come back. Anyway. I love BYOP. I saw them at my first SXSW in 2006 playing a teensy show in front of oh, I dunno, 20 people (myself included).
Highlights: I met one of the guys from The Switches, who was really super nice and talked to me about Manchester and Factory Records for a while (the obsession never stops here). But moshing to BYOP was pretty fucking cool. I'm small (5'3") and not very tough. I also went to that particular show with my ex, who is very strong and very protective. He tried to stop the kids from bashing into me, but instead of accept his protection I kindly shoved him out of the way and continued partying. I also got to meet all of BYOP and they signed my record.
Merchandise Purchased: Be Your Own Pet gym shorts, Be Your Own Pet's self-titled debut album on vinyl.

    The Cure North American Tour
    June 9, 2008
Premises: I definitely forgot about this show until maybe the day or so before. Fortunately, I was able to score tickets on the side of the arena (close, but weird angle) for me and my boyfriend. We got there a little late, but just in time to catch one of everyone's personal Cure favorites: Lovesong.
Highlights: Oh shit... probably dancing to "In Between Days" (my favorite Cure song) along with about 5000 aging goths. Oh, and Robert Smith's hair. It's still hilarious.
    Merchandise purchased: Cure T-shirt. Duh.

    Austin City Limits Music Festival
    Austin, TX
    September 26-28, 2008
Artists I Saw: Beck, Fleet Foxes, MGMT, The Black Keys, José Gonzales, The Fratellis, The Kills, CSS
Premise: What a lovely 17th bday present! Thanks M&D. This trip was a nice escape from Post-Hurricane-Ike Houston. We still had no power when I left. When I returned, our power came back on. I went with some friends from school, including these kids:
    Ben
    Alex
    and
    Alexa
My friends Claire, Andrew, and Morgan were also in attendance.
Highlights: Honestly, I don't remember much. I was pretty stoned the whole time. But seeing Beck live was like a religious experience. I knew all the words to all the songs. And CSS, although I'm not a huge fan, put on an awesome live show, complete with confetti and floral unitards.
Merchandise purchased: The Black Keys' Attack and Release on CD, Waterloo records messenger bag, lots and lots of water, lots and lots of food, Beck shirt

    Of Montreal Fall 08
    With Icy Demons
    November 12, 2008
    Houston, TX
Premise: One of my all-time favorite bands. I saw them in Feb. 2007, after the release of Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? But this was different. This was awesome.
Highlights: All of it. Between the dancers, the coffin filled with shaving cream, the costumes, and Kevin Barnes being... Kevin Barnes, I have no clue what to pick.
Merchandise purchased: Of Montreal shirt, Skeletal Lamping on 180g vinyl

  • 100 Albums That Define Me.

    19 Nov 2008, 22:49 by dahnraelz

Inspired by my friend Archnihil, I
decided to make a list of 100 albums. Instead of calling them a must-listen (since I don't believe in musical objectivity), these are the albums that define me and my musical taste.

Both categories are in alphabetical order by groups.

The best (albums that stun me with their beauty, make me happy just because they are perfect and hypnotize me)
    1. Megalazottak es megszomoritottak by After Crying
    [Hungarian Progressive Rock]
Hauntingly beautiful. Although fairly different from the rest of AC's discography, this is the one-of-two best albums.
    2. Overground Music by After Crying
First AC album, much more progrockish than Megalazottak and equally good.

    3. Magical Mystery Tour by The Beatles
    4. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles
    5. White Album by The Beatles
While not a good three albums for an interesting top-list, Beatles are one of those classics I love.

    6. Burn the Maps by The Frames
[according to last.fm - Indie rock. That is surely very popular tag these days..]
The very best album of Frames. Very powerful.

    7. Franz Ferdinand by Franz Ferdinand
    [Indie Rock]
I used to love Franz Ferdinand. Although my love was shaken by the indifference of everybody I know towards FF, they still belong here.

    8. Foxtrot by Genesis
    9. Nursery Cryme by Genesis
    10. Selling England by the Pound by Genesis
    11. The Lamb Lies Down The Broadway by Genesis
    12. Trespass by Genesis
    [Classic Progressive Rock]
While it seems odd to put so many albums by one group in this list, it also seems to wrong to add any of these without adding the others

    aswell.

    13. Demon Days by Gorillaz
    [Alternative-electronic-indie-hip-hop-rock]

    14. Turn on the Bright Lights by Interpol
    [Indie rock with post-punk sound]
Sad, depressive, melancholic debut album from Interpol. I can't listen to this without being completely drown in it.

    15. Heavy Horses by Jethro Tull
    [Progressive/Folk Rock]
    Just classic.
    16. Thick as a Brick by Jethro Tull
    Favourite album by Jethro Tull

    17. Unknown Pleasures by Joy Division
    [Post-punk]
Who doesn't know Ian Curtis' hypnotical voice misses a whole different type of music.
    18. Substance by Joy Division
A collection of some of the best (unreleased) JD's songs.

    19. Larks' Tongues in Aspic by King Crimson
    20. Red by King Crimson
    21. Starless and Bible Black by King Crimson
    [Progressive Rock]
Classic. And maybe also the best, can't decide. And don't worry, I'm going to include the album you're missing in the next category, because surprisingly, these three are my favourites.

    22. Mechanik Destruktiw Kommandoh by Magma
    [Zeuhl]
    Epic.

    23. Fugazi by Marillion
    [Progressive Rock]
One of the newest albums in this list. Although I have discovered another 100 albums after listening to Fugazi, it does take long to get to

    list of my favourites.
    24. Misplaced Childhood? by Marillion
While not as musically perfect as Fugazi, Misplaced childhood actually beats Fugazi as album as a whole.

    25. Hergest Ridge by Mike Oldfield
    26. Ommadawn by Mike Oldfield
    27. Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield
    [Minimalism]
There absolutely no doubt Tubular Bells are the best. Still, all three are perfect. One of the most important artists in my life.

    28. Good News for People Who Love Bad News by Modest Mouse
    29. We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank by Modest Mouse
    [Indie Rock]
I might upset someone by not including the others. Sorry, my bad, this is simply because I haven't listened to them enough to be sure. Kind of

classic-indie rock band, and a wonderful one it is.

    30. Rock Action by Mogwai
    [Post-Rock]
I think this is the newest album in here. Mogwai are one of the few artists in last few months that seem to be a very important group for me in the future. The first album that has gotten to my top-list only proves it.

    31. Yesterday Was Dramatic, Today is Ok by múm
    [Ambient]
At first I didn't understand múm - I was looking for musical excellence and I didn't find it. Unlike any other group I know, múm's power

doesn't seem to lie in the music itself, but in the emotion it creates. This is quite hard to explain is one doesn't know the feeling, I like

to give the example with PlayAsleep on a Train. While not particulary interesting musically, it really makes me feeling like I am falling asleep on a train.

    32. Atom Heart Mother by Pink Floyd
    33. Piper At The Gates Of Dawn by Pink Floyd
    34. The Wall by Pink Floyd
    35. Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd
[Classic rock, progressive rock, psychedelic rock,]
Four best albums by Pink Floyd, absolutely 100% lead by Atom Heart Mother. Oh how I love that album.

    36. Hail to the Thief by Radiohead
    37. OK Computer by Radiohead
    [Alternative rock]
Radiohead ist in top place of every group for a reason. It's damn amazing music. Although OK Computer is the most known album (or is it?), I personally prefer Hail To The Thief.

    38. By the Way by Red Hot Chili Peppers
    39. CALFORNICATION by Red Hot Chili Peppers
    [Alternative rock]
Another classic. RHCP simply do belong here.

    40. Ashes Are Burning by Renaissance
    [Progressive rock with female singer]
Lovely music. I am definitely going to explore this group more sometime.

    41. Ganglion by Saltillo
    [Trip-hop]
Saltillo beats all the other trip-hop groups on his own (yes, it's one man). Every fan of trip hop who doesn't know him yet should get the album right now.

    42. Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness by The Smashing Pumpkins
    [Alternative Rock]
    Best SP's album.

    43. Sonic Nurse by Sonic Youth
    [Noise rock]
I guess some SY fan will probably assasinate me. I've heard Sonic Youth's older albums and yes, they're GREAT (confusion is sex is my favourite old one). Yes, they have started doing a too "sweet" and non-noise, music afterwards. But Sonic Nurse is different. It perfectly merges both

extremes of SY into one, perfect album.

    44. Mezmerize by System of a Down
    [(Alternative) Metal]
One of the very few Metal groups I've gotten into and hell they're amazing.

    45. Pick Of Destiny by Tenacious D
    [Hard Rock]
One of the most innovative rock groups of today. I love every single song on this album, almost every one of them is somehow different.

    46. To the Faithful Departed by The Cranberries
    [Alternative Rock]
    I just shot John Lennon

    47. The Evpatoria Report by The Evpatoria Report
    48. Golevka by The Evpatoria Report
    [Post-rock]
While many albums here are great, Evpatoria, even just after one EP and one album (yeah I know there is second already) made me crazy about it. Best post-rock, possibly with Mogwai, but that is something I still have to decide.

    49. Outlandos d'Amour by The Police
    [New wave / Rock]
One of the so easy-to-listen bands that you quickly find yourself loving them.

    50. Book of Silk by Tin Hat Trio
    51. The Sad Machinery Of Spring by Tin Hat
[Instrumental jazz / String+other quartet, well, undefinable..]
One of the top groups of mine. Anybody who enjoys artists such as Tom Waits should try Tin Hat and might be very pleasantly surprised.

    52. Wolfmother by Wolfmother
    [2005's Classic Rock]
A classic rock band that overslept for about thirty years. And a wonderful one!

    53. Keys To Ascension by Yes
    54. Keys to Ascension - Volume 2 by Yes
    [Progressive Rock]
These two are the only albums I know well, but they surely are legends for a reason.

The ones that should not be missed
Second half of my Journal is dedicated to albums that I can't say are perfect. Funnily enough, mostly it is only because I haven't developed the sort of emotional connection yet, which is only matter of time. I believe more than half of these will with time turn to The Best..
While I may be critic about some albums, I do love all of these albums, I am probably only explaining why they aren't in The Best list.

    55. Sur les Murs by 10 Rue d'la Madeleine
    [Hard Rock]
You could say they are French Rage Against The Machine, only better :)

    56. De Profundis by After Crying
    [Hungarian Progressive Rock]
Here they are, again. De profundis is mostly considered the best album from them, I strongly disagree. But it still is an amazing album, if it wasn't After Crying, I'd be stunned.

    57. Funeral by Arcade Fire
    [Indie rock]
Very promising group. I haven't listened enough to be sure, but Funeral surely is lovely album.

    58. Animal Magic by Bonobo
    59. Days To Come by Bonobo
    [Trip-hop]
Bonobo is one of the artists I almost put in The Best list. I still ain't sure, but I guess he will be there soon.

    60. Every Day by The Cinematic Orchestra
    [Nu-jazz]
Very new artist to me, but I am sure I'm gonna love them, as I do with Every Day already.

    61. X&Y by Coldplay
    [Alternative Rock]
Classic. Although many would disagree, my favourite album is X&Y, I am sure about that.

    62. Tarkus by Emerson, Lake & Palmer
    [Progressive rock]
I really do have to listen more of ELP. Tarkus is amazing.

    63. Curtain Call by Eminem
    [Hip-Hop]
I guess people might kill me while reading #63 :) EMINEM IS DA BEST HIPHOP NIGGA IN DA WORLDZ, SO FACK OF! Just kidding. I really do like him though :)

    64. The Cost by The Frames
    [..indie rock]
Second favourite album from Frames, probably mostly because of Once.

    65. Gentle Giant by Gentle Giant
    66. Octopus by Gentle Giant
    [Progressive rock]
Another progrock legend. I am sure I just have to listen some more.

    67. Gorillaz by Gorillaz
    [Alternative Rock-Electronic-stuff-mix]

    68. Appetite for Destruction by Guns N' Roses
    [Classic Hard Rock]
Legendary album by a legendary group.

    69. Antics by Interpol
    70. Our Love to Admire by Interpol
    [Indie Rock / Post Punk]
The other two albums by Interpol. Both are quite new to me, but both are hypnotizing as the Interpol always is.

    71. The Wake by IQ
    [Progressive rock]
While IQ couldn't beat Marillion when I got both Fugazi and The Wake at the same time, it is still lovely progrock.

    72. In the Court of Crimson King by King Crimson
    73. In the Wake of Poseidon by King Crimson
    [Progressive rock]
Well, here they are. This might change in the future, but in the presence, although I DO love these two albums, I clearly prefer the previous three.

    74. Big Science by Laurie Anderson
    [Experimental]
Laurie Anderson in her first experimental and hypnotizing album, Big Science. I really recommend this to anyone who isn't afraid of new kinds of music.

    75. Marbles by Marillion
[Alternative / Progressive rock .. well, these times, you might aswell call it indie anyways]
Second newest album by legendary Marillion. There is no doubt the music is different than what it was in 80s and 90s, but still, it's one of their best albums.

    76. Go by Moby
    [Electronic]
I'm not the biggest fan of Moby out there, so Go, which is best of album, is enough for me (and I do hate best of albums, it makes people listen to the predefined hits and never explore further). To be honest though, Go is superb!

    77. Absolution by Muse
    78. Origin of Symmetry by Muse
    79. Showbiz by Muse
    [Alternative rock]
There used to be times when Radiohead sounded like a copy of Muse to me. That was a long time ago. A lot changed since than, mainly I finally found out which group I prefer. Still, Muse is something nobody should miss (unless of course your musical preferences are somewhere else)

    80. Hold Your Colour by Pendulum
    [Drum'n'Bass]
Only D'n'B group I ever knew. This album is epic though.

    81. Fool's Mate by Peter Hammill
    82. Chameleon in the Shadow of the Night by Peter Hammill
    83. In Camera by Peter Hammill
    84. Nadir's Big Chance by Peter Hammill
    [Art-rock]
Peter Hammill is 100% going to The Best group somewhere in the future, just not now. I love his music already, it's just that I can hardly remember any of the songs by looking at the album name, so I really just need to listen some more.

    85. Doolittle by Pixies
    [Alternative/Indie rock]
This music just kick energy into me everytime I listen to it. Great band, shame on me I know only two albums.

    86. In Rainbows by Radiohead
    [Alternative rock]
It took me half a year till I finally understood In Rainbows is an amazing album. I'm happy I did.

    87. Scheherezade And Other Stories by Renaissance
    [Progressive rock]
Second album from Renaissance I got. It clearly shows that Renaissance is far more than just one excellent album. Definitely gonna look deeper in the future.

    88. Elect The Dead by Serj Tankian
    [Metal]
Serj Tankian is obviously ingenious. He rocked in SoaD and now he rocks alone, but with the same level of awesomeness.

    89. Agaetis Byrjun by Sigur Rós
    [Ambient]
Sigur Ros is another from many groups I just HAVE to explore more. Although I have been considering Agaetis Byrjun boring for quite a long time, I finally found it's beauty not a long time ago. Excellent ambient and relaxing music.

    90. Confusion Is Sex by Sonic Youth
    91. Goo by Sonic Youth
    [Noise-rock]
Confusion is Sex and Goo are the only albums I know well from the noise-era of Sonic Youth. Both are one of my favourite albums. Now this definitely says something about SY: I should get more! And I will.

    92. First Impressions of Earth by The Strokes
    93. Is This It by The Strokes
    93. Room on Fire by The Strokes
    [Indie rock]
One of the most pleasant indie rock you can find. Strokes slowly crawl into your mind without you knowing about it and before you do understand why you're still listening to them over and over, it's too late.

    95. Gran Turismo by The Cardigans
    [Pop-rock]
Another possible candidate for The Best list. I only know Cardigans for a short time, but there's something more in this music than meets the eye)

    96. Waiting for the Sun by The Doors
    97. L.A. Woman by The Doors
    [Classic rock]
The Doors.. how could I have not know doors for such a long time? I believe one day they are going to be what The Beatles are to me now.

    98. Maar by The Evpatoria Report
    [Post-rock]
As much as I love TER, Maar still hasn't convinced me it is the album I've been waiting for so long. Eighteen Robins road and Mithridate are both worthy of Evpatoria Report, but I still ain't sure about the other two.

    99. Not Available by The Residents
    [Avant-Garde]
The Residents. Legendary group.. I'll just say one funny and weird thing about this album:
I've been playing the song Never Known Questions for about 8 years in my head. Over and over. I did not know what song or what group is it, I simply had no idea. Untill last week. The fact is that I knew Not Available for a long time, but when I was a young kid and I've forgotten since then. I am quite sure residents are gonna become one of my favourite groups in the future, Not Available and Commercial album are both quite amazing.

    100. At Mount Zoomer by Wolf Parade
    [Indie rock]
aaaand here we go. #100 finally. And it is Wolf Parade with their second and newest album, At Mount Zoomer. While I didn't find the first album particulary interesting, At Mount Zoomer is one of the best Indie rock albums I've ever heard.

This is it. A hundreth albums, all of them are somehow important to me. 54 I could not live without, the rest is soon to join them. There are about 50 more albums I had to kick out because I wanted this to be top 100..

I'd be more than happy if you commented and possibly recommended some music. Thats why I made this anyway (that and to make a "top list" because you know, everybody loves making top lists.. :)
