Less influenced by punk than many of their contemporaries, the Pumpkins had a densely layered, guitar-heavy sound, with powerful loud-to-soft-to-loud transitions, while still picking up grunge, heavy metal, power pop, psychedelic rock, shoegazer-style production.
In later recordings, namely Adore, the fourth album, an electronica flair filtered in after Jimmy Chamberlin temporarily left the band for drug rehab. Though Chamberlin returned for their fifth album, Machina/The Machines of God, electronica undertones remained. The emotional tone of bandleader Billy Corgan’s songs ranged from angry (
Selling more than 18.3 million albums in the United States alone (as of 2006), the Smashing Pumpkins were one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed bands of the 1990s. However, internal fighting, diminishing sales, drug problems, cultural vitality, and what is speculated to be improper treatment from their record company, hampered the band in their later years, leading to the 2000 break-up.

nothing about the new DVD? wowzies. the first disc i thought was pretty good, it's nice to see a band behind the scenes without the glam and coverups. corgan is a fucking regular guy just like you or me, but more or less a really ambitious one. the concert disc is great and i'm glad to see the band virtually saying FUCK YOU with their setlist of non-singles. i finally "get" what they're all about since the reformation, and it's all about not living in the 90s anymore

Saw them on the 15th. Probably one of the most amazing shows i have been to so far. It was stellar.

Charactarantu1a: This site has the Mellon Collie as two separate albums. That's why It's not in the top. If the site had it as one album, I know it would be in the top.

G.L.O.W was one of the best songs they played at the ocncert I went too. I do like it, I'm a sucker for heavy bass, but I agree that the lyrics are not all there. Still a cool song.

I didn't like G.L.O.W. that much either until I actually bought it on itunes and had a good quality of it. Now I think it's pretty good (except for the lyrics). The only thing I hate is that I had to buy it at the itunes store and can't put it on my mp3 player because it can't read the files. Why itunes!?! I want mp3-files or a physical release :( . I don't want to buy an original ipod only because of G.L.O.W. ;)

No absolia they most likely won't. They have 2-3 setlists for this tour maybe with a different song thrown in just becasue. From what I've seen, there was no Stumbleine and probably won't be.

IMO almost ALL of the new acoustic songs are fantastic. 99 Floors, Peace + Love, Zeitgeist, the American Gothic EP, the acoustic version of That's The Way... I think Billy's still got the knack for writing great acoustic songs, but his new studio style is still not 100% (Jimmy's is, but Jimmy is always perfect, because he is a complete and utter champion). That said, I now FINALLY appreciate Superchrist and think it is freaking excellent. More stuff in the same vein would rock my socks.
