The subscription model is the latest step in CBS's agenda to restrict access to only RIAA artists. It is the latest step in tightening the noose on independent artists. It is also a step toward making all music on Last.fm pay-to-play. With respect, if you all want to discover new music, don't waste your time with Corporate Media sites like Last.fm, MP3.com, Rhapsody, music.yahoo.com, etc. ad nauseum. Listen to independent Internet radio stations. Go to Shoutcast.com and you will find tens of thousands of radio stations playing great music, many stations playing independent artists. We offer music for FREE, supported by Web site ads and freewill donations, NOT Corporate funding, nor is our playlist dictated by RIAA labels like all of the Corporate music sites. And if you listen using Winamp or iTunes, you get the artist and song information and you can go purchase music from those artists. Support independent music by listening to independent Internet radio stations.

heyWFR,..i can dig your philosophy actually, and am slightly leaning into other sites myself,..(one foot out the door possibly)..but still use Lfm as a networking amongst friends/artists. (i had some issues w/ facebook-so not sure2go bak yet). Strangely, I can't remeber how i ended up over here,..but karmically it must mean something because we have a thread over @ neOambient Earth Network going on right now in regards2the new subscription crap, and i also just noticed Renato in ur friendlist (he's very passionate about the r.player). Somekind of an electrical connection going on ther..so i was promted to leave U a msg. and cordially ask for the friend add..becauZ i like your style ;) and please join us @ neON and ambiOfusion.

Last.fm keeps losing audience and they still haven't fixed any of the problems turning people away. Figures. I am mostly on Facebook now- http://www.facebook.com/people/World-FusionRadiocom/1501827247 - because Last.fm is dying since they removed the good functionality. Look for me there. Peace!

About Me

Real music is out there. Support indpedendent freeform Internet radio stations.
.

What the future sounds like.

Keep Last.fm for users and indie artists, not corporate marketers.

I had a paid subscription for three years but after the disasterous site "redesign" I let it expire and I will not be renewing. I won't be giving any more money to a company that doesn't care about their customers. Last.fm and Audioscrobbler used to be about discovering independent artists and exploring alternative music. Then, the creators of Last.fm sold out to CBS and Last.fm became just another tool for the corporate media conglomerate to push its pre-fabricated pablum. The site "redesign" eliminated many of the means by which indie artists and fans could share music and those left on Last.fm (over a third of customers left) are bombarded by music from the big record labels and ads, ads, ads.

I will continue to scrobble my playlist to give the artists I play the exposure they deserve. I will continue to also respond to messages from people though with the Last.fm downgrade it is now easier for people to contact me on my site, WorldFusionRadio.com. We'll just leave this site to the corporate marketers pushing their mindless, souless mainstream music.
